東京から南へ約160km。都心から行ける秘島として人気の式根島。なんといっても自転車でも回れるくらいのコンパクトさが魅力の島です。
東京諸島（伊豆諸島）の火山島である式根島は、秘湯・海中温泉で有名で、昔から多くの湯治客が島を訪れています。
今回は、式根島を代表する露天風呂温泉 ”地鉈の湯（じなたのゆ） ”とお隣の島（新島）の”湯の浜”の温泉気分が味わえる入浴剤セットの「湯ったりめぐり」誕生秘話を一般社団法人式根島観光協会事務局長の田村修一さんに伺いました。
Shikinejima, located about 160km south of Tokyo, is a popular hidden island that can be reached from the city center. Its compact size allows you to explore the entire island by bicycle, making it an attractive destination.
Shikinejima, a volcanic island in the Tokyo Islands (Izu Islands), is famous for its secret hot springs and underwater hot springs, attracting many visitors seeking relaxation and healing for generations.
This time, we interviewed Mr. Shuichi Tamura, the executive director of the Shikinejima Tourism Association, about the birth story of the bath salts set "Yuttari Meguri," which allows you to experience the hot spring atmosphere of Shikinejima's representative open-air bath "Jinata no Yu" and the neighboring island of Niijima's "Yuno Hama."
海を見ながら入れる絶景秘湯から足湯まで、天然温泉を満喫できる島
そんな「湯ったりめぐり」が生まれた背景には、古くから湯治場として親しまれてきた島の歴史があります。昭和13年に歌人の与謝野晶子が訪れた際には歌を詠み、海辺に記念碑が建てられています。また、地鉈（じなた）温泉は全国の露天風呂番付で東の張出横綱にも選ばれています。
現在、島には3つの露天風呂と、有料の屋内温泉施設「憩（いこい）の家」があり、露天風呂では海から湧き出る天然温泉を大自然の中で楽しめます。島の露天風呂は、水着があれば24時間無料で好きな時に入ることができ、ゴツゴツした岩場でできたワイルドな浴槽、星空の下、水平線を眺めながら楽しむ露天風呂はきっと忘れられない体験になること間違いなし！
From breathtaking open-air baths with views of the sea to foot baths, you can fully enjoy natural hot springs on the island.
Shikinejima's hot springs have a long history as a therapeutic destination. In 1928, the poet Yosano Akiko composed a poem during her visit to the island, and a monument was erected by the seaside in her memory. Moreover, the Jinata Onsen has been selected as the top of east japan -ranking open-air bath in the national rankings.
Currently, the island has three open-air baths and a paid indoor hot spring facility called "Ikoi no Ie." In the open-air baths, you can enjoy natural hot springs that gush from the sea, with the opportunity to soak in them 24 hours a day if you have swimwear. These rustic and wild rock-built baths, under the starry sky, with a view of the horizon, are an unforgettable experience.
海から温泉が沸いており、自分で海水を入れながら温度を調整して入ります。「地鉈温泉」は内科の湯と呼ばれており、神経痛・冷え性・胃腸病などに効能があると言われています。
The "Jinata Onsen" allows you to adjust the temperature by adding seawater while enjoying the view of the sea. It is known as an internal medicine bath and is said to be effective for ailments such as neuralgia, cold sensitivity, and gastrointestinal disorders.
式根島の野湯で唯一の無色透明な湯が沸く「足付温泉」。外科の湯と言われ、切り傷、擦り傷、アトピー皮膚炎などに効能あると言われています。
The "Ashidzuki Onsen" is the island's only colorless and transparent hot spring that gushes from a natural source. It is known as a surgical bath and is believed to be effective for wounds, abrasions, and atopic dermatitis.
満点の星空を見ながら入れる「松が下雅湯」。いつでも適温で入れる温泉で、足湯が備え付けられており、子供も安心して入れる温泉。
The "Matsugashita Miyabiyu" offers a view of the starry sky while allowing you to enjoy a hot spring at a comfortable temperature. It also has a foot bath and is a hot spring where children can safely soak.

また、式根島は温泉だけではなく、海の綺麗さも楽しめるスポットがいっぱい。例えば、海の透明度が島一番でジオラマのように美しい扇形の海岸線が特徴の泊海水浴場。魚たちが泳ぐのが真横で見えるほど透き通った海です。ここでは海水浴はもちろん、シュノーケリングもおすすめです。

In addition to hot springs, Shikinejima offers many places to enjoy the beauty of the sea. For example, the "Tomari Beach," with its stunning fan-shaped coastline and the clearest sea on the island, where you can see fish swimming right next to you. Here, not only swimming but also snorkeling is highly recommended.

そして島の景色を楽しむなら、対岸の新島や伊豆半島まで見渡せる神引展望台も外せません。
And if you want to enjoy the island's scenery, don't miss the "Kamibiki Observatory," where you can overlook Shikinejima, Niijima, and the Izu Peninsula across the strait.

いろいろな体験が日帰りでも可能で、コンパクトさが魅力の式根島。おすすめは温泉巡りですが、温泉によっては干潮満潮の時間によっては入れない可能性もあるため、島に着いたらまずは式根島観光協会に行き、事務局長の田村さんに温泉に入れる時間などを相談するのが良いかもしれません。とてもフレンドリーで笑顔が素敵な田村さんに、ぜひ会いにいってみてください。
Shikinejima offers various experiences that can be enjoyed in a day, making it an attractive destination due to its compact size. While hot springs are a recommended activity, keep in mind that some hot springs may not be accessible during low or high tides. Therefore, when you arrive on the island, it's a good idea to visit the Shikinejima Tourism Association and consult with Mr. Tamura, who is very friendly and has a lovely smile, about the best times to visit the hot springs.
