"Sole surviving specialty store for stylish toothpicks"

Nihonbashi Saruya has been producing handmade toothpicks, carved out of the premium wood of kuromoji （spicebush）, for over 300 years. Back in Edo era, toothpicks became popular among the common people, and 250 specialty stores lined up in Asakusa area to cater for the trendy urbanites fussy about everything including single-use toothpicks. To hand down the dedication for hospitality, our “Kumadori” each toothpick has been wrapped in a fortune-telling slip, and the boxes carry various good-luck motifs.
