Renowned for the beauty of its silky sheen, "Murayama-Oshima Tsumugi" is a traditional textile crafted around Musashi-murayama City. Since its founding over a century ago, Tafusa Senshoku Co., Ltd. has handled every stage of production entirely in-house—from refining the raw silk and dyeing the threads to weaving the final fabric. While "Murayama-Oshima Tsumugi" is traditionally tailored into kimonos, this particular piece has been crafted as a drawstring pouch, making it easy for anyone to enjoy in daily life. According to Mr. Tashiro, the workshop's fourth-generation head, the textile's greatest appeal lies in its distinctive luster and stiffness. The secret, he explains, is the traditional itajime (board-clamp resist) dyeing technique—a gentle method that minimizes stress on the kasuri threads, preserving the silk's natural resilience and elegant sheen.
