In the early Showa period, 'Okutama Iroha Karuta' was created with Mr. Haruichi Hamura at the center. He was engaged in the silk industry in Nishi-Tama Village (present-day Hamura City) at the time, aiming to promote the newly established region of Okutama (including present-day Hamura City). It was a sort of bestseller at the time, with approximately 20,000 copies printed and enjoyed by many, but in recent years, there were no surviving copies of the karuta. At such a time, coincidentally, karuta was found in the house of a relative of Mr. Haruichi, and based on that, his grandson reprinted it. The Karuta which depicts the characteristics and beauty of Nishi-Tama.
