東京から南に約170キロ、白い砂浜が美しい新島。島で採れる火山岩「コーガ石（抗火石）」は、新島の他にはイタリアのリパリ島でしか採れない貴重な石。「新島ガラス」の美しいオリーブグリーンの色味は、このコーガ石に含まれる成分が高熱で発色したものです。1987年にオープンした新島ガラスアートセンターは、ガラスのワークショップや作品制作が行われ、日本だけでなく海外からもガラスの作家が集まる国際交流の場となっています。新島特産の美しいガラスで、豊かなひとときを過ごしてみませんか。

Niijima Island, 170 kilometers south of Tokyo, has a beautiful white sandy beach. "Koga stone", a volcanic rock extracted from the island, is a precious stone that can only be found on Niijima island and Lipari Island in Italy. The beautiful olive-green color of Niijima Glass results from the high heat generated by the ingredients contained in the stone. The Niijima Glass Art Center, which opened in 1987, actively produces Niijima glass products and offers glass workshops, attracting glass artists from Japan and abroad.
