    Guests can taste Shima-zushi, a Hachijojima specialty, and Edomae-zushi, which contain a wider variety of ingredients than those found in central Tokyo. For the rice, red vinegar is used for Edomae-zushi, while Shima-zushi is slightly sweeter. There is a counter, tables, a tatami room, and the table near the entrance is wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair users are directed to the Hachijo Branch Office’s wheelchair-accessible toilet (with ostomate-accessible features and diaper-changing seats) located nearby.

  2. Aigae Suisan Local fish and dried fish restaurant

    Aigae Suisan, a manufacturer of dried fish and other processed marine products, operates this restaurant as a diner by day and an izakaya (Japanese-style pub) by night. You can enjoy a wide variety of Hachijo Island’s delicacies, including sashimi, grilled or boiled local fish, dried fish, kusaya, tempura of ashiba leaves, and seared shiitake mushrooms. There is a 10-cm-high threshold at the entrance, but the restaurant is flat.

    The restaurant has only table seating and a relaxed atmosphere as if guests are visiting a private home on the island.   5. Asoko Sushi

    This is a well-known and long-established restaurant on the island. Inside the restaurant there are fish prints of a sunfish about 140 cm long caught by the owner and autographs of many famous people who have visited the restaurant. The island sushi and soy sauce-soaked island sushi (reservation required) are popular. The entrance has a sliding door with steps. There is a counter, tables, a tatami room, and the tables are wheelchair accessible.

    This is a hamburger restaurant with juicy meat and original sauce made from Hachijojima ingredients. Both for lunch and dinner, visitors can enjoy island time with delicious island saké and wine while gazing out at the ocean. There is a threshold at the entrance, but the restaurant is flat.   7. Hachijojima local cuisine Ryozanpaku

    Reservations are required for this local cuisine restaurant, where visitors can enjoy plenty of Hachijo Island flavors, such as island sushi (reservations required), tempura of ashitaba leaves, and kusaya. There are three entrances from the front road, and seating is available at tables, sunken kotatsu type, and box type. Private rooms with table seating are wheelchair accessible (advance reservation required for wheelchair users).

    Offers authentic Chinese cuisine, a rarity on Hachijojima, at reasonable prices. For lunch, we offer a special set menu of noodles and rice bowls. For dinner, the restaurant offers creative non-Chinese dishes using local ingredients.

  1. Hachijo View Hotel

    Hachijo View Hotel, located on the southern foot slope of Hachijo-fuji, has 20 accessible rooms (not completely barrier-free, but comfortable for wheelchair, cane, and baby carriage users to stay in) in the main building. Gentle slopes eliminate steps at room entrances, and all rooms are flat. For the visually impaired, room number displays are raised and can be checked by touch, and non-contact room keys are provided. The hotel does not provide dinner, but there is a shuttle service to restaurants in the Okago area (a taxi is required for the return trip).

  2. Lodge Ocean

    Located a 3-min. walk from the ocean and less than 10 min. from Sokodo Beach, this lodging facility has three lodging buildings and BBQ facilities on a large 1,000 tsubo site. The Single Wing, which was newly built in 2023, is a facility specializing in single rooms, something that has never existed on Hachijojima before, and is barrier-free, with no steps inside or outside the building.

  3. NOBORYUSOU

    The entire building is a barrier-free guest house. The one-story building is fully flat for easy wheelchair access, and the hallways and room entrances are wide and spacious. There are two single rooms and four twin rooms, all of which are equipped with electric single beds.
    No meals will be provided, so please use nearby restaurants. There is no stove in the common kitchen, so cooking is not possible, but there is a microwave oven and a kettle, so you can heat up lunch boxes or cook meals that require only pouring hot water, such as cup noodles.

    The building is fully flat once visitors go up the ramp from the parking lot to the entrance.
