Hachijojima
Hachijojima is a tropical island that is only a 55-min. flight from Haneda Airport. The Hachijo Round Trip Road is about 45 km long, encircling the gourd-shaped island formed by two volcanoes. Visit the various spots, feel the mountain greenery and sea breeze, experience traditional crafts and performing arts, and enjoy seafood and island shochu.

Hachijojima Airport
This is the gateway to Hachijojima, with three daily flights to and from Haneda Airport. The three-story terminal building is compact and functional, with the arrival and departure lobbies, souvenir stores, restaurants, tourist information, among others, concentrated on the 2nd floor, and the 3rd floor deck offers a close-up view of aircraft takeoffs and landings, but access to the 3rd floor is by stairs only.
Accessibility Information
From the boarding bridge to the terminal (2nd floor) and the front road, it is fully flat, making it easy for wheelchair users to move around. There is a nursing room in the general lobby.

Spot1 Hachijo Botanical Park/Hachijo Visitor Center
About 40-60 min.The park has a collection of varied domestic and foreign plants that take advantage of Hachijojima’s mild climate. The Visitor Center in the park has a video showing the origins of the island and its unique natural environment, so it is a good place to stop by at the beginning of your visit in Hachijojima. The exhibits also allow visitors to learn about Hachijojima through all five senses, such as touching a sea turtle fossil and volcanic rocks, and listening to the calls of wild birds that live on the island. In the greenhouse adjacent to the Visitor Center, about 100 species of plants, including hibiscus and papaya, are cultivated and displayed. A small deer, Kyon, is kept near the south entrance parking lot.

Parking is available at three locations within the park, as well as at the parking lot by the Visitor Center. The park paths are paved with cobblestone or red volcanic rubble, and some sections require careful attention.

Spot2 Mt.Hachijo-Fuji Fureai Ranch About 30 min.
Located halfway up Hachijo-fuji on the north side of the gourd-shaped, this pastureland for the promotion of livestock farming has black Japanese cattle grazing on pastureland spreading out on the slope. The view from the observatory to Mt. Mihara to the south, the city, the airport, and the sea is spectacular. Ice cream and pudding are available during Golden Week and summer vacation.
Accessibility Information
The 150-meter slope extending from the parking lot to the observatory has a maximum gradient of approximately 10 degrees. The observatory is on two levels; the upper level is reached by stairs, while the lower level is accessible from the slope without any steps. Stairs are used to access the 2nd floor of the building.

Spot3 Nanbara Coast of Permian Rocks About 30 min.
The powerful landscape created by lava flowing from the eruption of Hachijo-fuji stretches 100 m wide and 500 m long. Depending on the weather, you can feel the spray of the waves and watch the spectacular sunset over the ocean, making this a spot where you can experience the natural beauty of Hachijojima.
Accessibility Information
The observation area is on the same level as the parking lot. To go down to the beach, visitors should be careful as the stairs are made of rugged volcanic rocks.

Spot4 Ozato Tamaishi Wall About 20 min.
It is an atmospheric area with a beautiful landscape of cobble stone walls. They were built using the "Roppo-zumi" method, in which six stones are placed around a single stone. These boulders are said to have been carried by exiles from Maezakigahama beach and Yokomagaura beach to earn their daily bread, and are valuable in telling the island’s history.
Accessibility Information
Visitors can use the parking lot of Furusato Village, which is located a little further up the mountain from the roundabout road. The path of the boulder wall is a slope with a maximum gradient of about 13 degrees. Please note that there is also vehicular traffic due to the residential area.

Spot5 Osaka Tunnel Observation Deck About 20 min.
Located south of the Osaka Bridge on the roundabout road, near the Osaka Tunnel connecting Okago and Kashitate, this is a spectacular spot. The beautiful Hachijo-fuji peak in front of you, across the sea and the foot of Mt. Mihara in the foreground, and Hachijo Kojima can also be seen. The evening view from here is called "Osaka Yusho," and is one of the "Eight Views of Hachijo" selected by Norifumi Kashima, who was exiled to the island in 1866 (Keio 2).
Accessibility Information
Visitors must use extreme caution when crossing from the parking space to the viewing area on the mountain side of the Hachijo roundabout road.

Spot6 Kihachijo meyu workshop About 30 min.
This is a workshop for Hachijojima’s traditional yellow fabric Kihachijo, which is dyed using plants and soil native to the island and woven on a handloom. At the workshop, visitors can observe the weavers at work and purchase Kihachijo fabric accessories. Visitors can also see an old house built over 100 years ago with an old loom and a dyeing pot.

Spot7 Hachijo Hattoriyasiki
About 20-40 min.This is the site of the house of the Hattori family, who was given the role of carrying tribute silk (Kihachijo as annual tribute) to the Shogunate during the Edo period. It is now used as a souvenir store, and some historical and folklore materials are on display. "Kashitate Odori dance" and "Hachijo Daiko drumming", designated as Tokyo Metropolitan Intangible Folk Cultural Assets, are performed at the entertainment hall.

This market is operated by a group of farmers and includes a café and greenhouse. In the greenhouse, rare plants and tropical fruit trees are grown. As for the sales area, agricultural products and processed goods are purchased directly from farmers on the island and sold. At the café, visitors can enjoy original menu items made with agricultural products from the island, such as Passion juice and Ashitaba au lait.

Spot9 Dairyu Farm
About 30 min.-1 hourAt Dairyu Farm, which grows "Umikaze Shiitake Mushrooms," taking advantage of the climate on Hachijojima, visitors can enjoy picking shiitake mushrooms. With baskets and scissors in hand, shiitake mushrooms peeking out from a row of bedding blocks are cut at their base. The basket full of shiitake mushrooms can be packed in a bag to take home. At the store, freshly picked shiitake mushrooms, processed shiitake mushroom products, and original goods are sold.

Spot10 Noboryotoge Observatory About 20 min.
It is said that the name "Noboryo" comes from the fact that the path looks like a dragon ascending to heaven when viewed from below. From the observatory, you can see Hachijo-fuji, Hachijo Kojima, Sokodo Port, Kaminato Port, and the airport, and on clear days, Miyakejima and Mikurajima can also be seen.

Spot11 Sokodo Beach About 30 min.
This is the only man-made sandy beach on Hachijojima, where many beaches are rocky. The spacious sandy beach stretches right next to the Kaminato (Sokodo) Port, where passenger ships arrive. Visitors can enjoy the view of the clear Hachijo blue sea, feel the sea breeze blowing on their skin, and listen to the sound of waves lapping at their feet.
Accessibility Information
From the parking lot, cross the pedestrian crossing in front of the Kaminato (Sokodo) Port Passenger Terminal and access the ramp from the sidewalk. To reach the jetty, visitors use either stairs or a ramp, but be careful as the slope is steep and slippery in places.

Spot12 ASHITABA Processing Plant About 30 min.
This factory processes and directly sells Hachijojima’s specialty "Ashitaba" using a unique patented manufacturing method. Visitors who make reservations in advance can taste and drink samples, and listen to a talk about the characteristics, health benefits, and manufacturing process of Ashitaba. In addition to its main products, such as powdered Ashitaba, green tea, and Ashitaba curry, the company is also developing processed products other than Ashitaba, such as Hachijo lemon and Umikaze shiitake mushrooms.

Hachijo Island Museum of History
Due to the large-scale renovation of the former Hachijojima History and Folklore Museum, the museum has been temporarily relocated to the Hachijo Branch Office Exhibition Hall, which was closed on November 30, 2024, to prepare for its reopening.
The new museum will open on October 1, 2025.

Hachijo Folk Crafts Yamashita
Visitors can try their hand at weaving Kihachijo fabric (reservation required), led by a traditional craftsman of the Kihachijo weaver. The Bambi Factory, connected to it, produces Kohachijo Sable Cookies, and the sweet aroma wafts through the store.

Nako Observatory
From the observatory, you can see not only Borawazawa Port below, but also the Pacific Ocean that fills your field of vision, the island's only surfing spot “Shioma Beach,” and the ridge line of “Koiwadogahana,” the southern tip of the island.
On a clear day, you can also enjoy the shadows of Aogashima Island. At night, it has long been known as a place to view the famous harvest moon, and is one of the eight most scenic spots of Hachijo, known as “Nako Shugetsu“.Accessibility Information

Hot Spring/Footbath
The three districts of Sakaue on Hachijojima (Kashitate, Nakanogo, and Sueyoshi) are full of hot spring spots. There are three paid hot springs and three free hot springs. One-day onsen round-trip tickets and “BU・S・PA" (unlimited rides on town buses and unlimited access to hot springs) valid for two days are available for purchase.

Super Asanuma
Super Asanuma has two stores, the Okago Store and the Sueyoshi Store. The Okago store is located in the center of the island, and in addition to food and daily necessities of the islanders, it also sells island souvenirs and local specialties such as island sushi and island saké.
