Kaminari-mon Gate
Kaminari-mon Gate is the entrance to Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo. Its official name is "Furaijin-mon Gate." Originally built in 942, it was moved to its current location during the Kamakura period. The giant lantern is an impressive sight, standing some 3.9 m tall and weighing in at 700 kg. Flanked by statues of the wind god and the thunder god, the gate is a popular attraction for tourists. You can enjoy a historical atmosphere on the path that leads to Senso-ji Temple via Nakamise-dori Street.

Ushijima - jinja Shrine
Built in 860, this shrine is a place where Susano-no-Mikoto is worshipped. Minamoto-no-Yoritomo was said to have been a believer, and legend has it that his prayers led to a successful river crossing. Rebuilt in its current location in 1932, it is notable for its rare triple torii gate. A grand festival is held every five years that features a traditional procession rich in historical customs and bustles with numerous worshippers and visitors.

Nose Myokenzan Bestuin
This is a Nichiren Buddhist temple that has been standing since the Edo period. Built in 1774, it is famous for being worshipped at by Katsu Kaishu and his son. The temple grounds house a bust and other historical items commemorating Katsu Kaishu.

Eko-in Temple
This is a historic temple that dates back to the Edo period. Known in particular for being a cemetery established to give memorial services and prayers, it sees large numbers of visitors. Home to vast numbers of gravestones, the temple grounds have a tranquil atmosphere.

Oyokogawa Shinsui Park
Stretching from Tokyo Skytree to Kinshicho, this park is some 1.8 km long. Its wide variety of facilities include playground equipment, a splash pad, and a fishing pond, making it popular with families, too. It features distinctive areas like the Kappa Riverbank Zone and the Flowers and Autumn Leaves Zone, and visitors can enjoy strolling and playing beside water.

Yokoamicho Park
This is a memorial park that conveys the memories of the Great Kanto Earthquake and the Tokyo Air Raids. Its grounds are home to the Tokyo Metropolitan Memorial Hall and the Reconstruction Memorial Museum, and are also dotted with various historical monuments. There is also a large Japanese garden where you can stroll around in tranquil surroundings while admiring koi fish. It also has a fine selection of playground equipment for children, making it popular with families, too.

Tokyo Mizumachi
Located along the Sumida River in Sumida City, this complex is a great area for shopping and dining. Featuring a design that makes the most of the waterfront scenery, it is home to a variety of relaxing cafes and restaurants. With walking paths around it as well, this is a perfect spot to take things at a leisurely pace while enjoying beautiful scenery courtesy of the Sumida River.

TABACCO & SALT MUSEUM
This is a unique museum that showcases the history and culture surrounding tobacco and salt. Its permanent exhibits include information on the origins of tobacco and its introduction into Japan, and information on topics like the techniques used to make salt.

Mikoku-yu ONSEN
This traditional Japanese public bath is a special place where you can enjoy natural black hot spring water. Founded in 1947 and renovated in 2015, its diverse range of baths includes a semi-open-air one with a view of Tokyo Skytree. In particular, the neutral-temperature hot spring is close to body temperature, and is superbly relaxing. The hot spring also admits people with tattoos, creating an appealingly friendly atmosphere where locals and foreign tourists all bathe together. It is a perfect spot for experiencing Japan's public bath culture.

THE SUMIDA HOKUSAI MUSEUM
This art museum mainly exhibits works by the ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai. It features extensive exhibits about Hokusai's life and creative activities. His iconic series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji is a particular must-see.

Kyu-Yasuda Teien (Former Yasuda Garden)
A Japanese garden created during the Meiji period. Spreading out around Shinji Pond, this garden is a quiet place of relaxation where you can enjoy seasonally changing flowers and old trees. Admission is free, and with the Sword Museum nearby as well, this is a place where you can experience Japanese culture very deeply. Tokyo Skytree is also nearby, making it an ideal spot to visit in between sightseeing.

The Japanese Sword Museum
This is a special place that offers a deep understanding of the charm of Japanese swords. The exhibition room showcases historical swords and the manufacturing process, offering you a look at the swordsmiths' skills up close. There are explanations in English as well, making it an easy environment for foreign tourists to feel at home in, too. Kokugikan (sumo Hall)
This is the sacred home of sumo in Japan and the venue for the Grand Sumo Tournaments. Spectators get to enjoy the thrilling action of sumo and experience traditional Japanese culture. The Sumo Museum inside has sumo-related exhibits and a shop, so visitors can learn about sumo's history and appeal.
