Fuji from the top of Mt. Mihara, an active volcano in the center of the island. This special course includes the Oshima Round Course, which was the stage of the cycling road race "Izu Oshima Gojinka Ride," plus a hill climb on Mt. Mihara. It can be enjoyed by a wide range of people, from serious cyclists to those who want to leisurely enjoy the nature of Oshima.
Points of Interest around the Course

The Great Road Cut
A huge volcanic eruption that happens roughly every 150 to 200 years created layers of fallen sediments, mainly scoria and volcanic ash, that formed a stunning striped pattern. It stands about 30 meters tall and stretches for 600 meters, earning the local nickname "Baumkuchen" because of its beauty.

Habu Port
A crater transformed into a port!
Habu Port is in the southern part of the island and is one of the most picturesque fishery ports around. It's the perfect place to explore at your leisure. This location was once a crater lake. However, a large tsunami connected the lake to the sea. Later, under the leadership of Heiroku Akihiro, people cut down the cliff and widened the mouth to make the place a port.
In the vicinity, you will find restaurants and cafes with opportunities to savor freshly caught fish from the surrounding waters. Visit the area the next time you take a break from cycling or traveling.

Mt.Mihara
The huge hole is a magma vent!
Mt. Mihara (758 meters above sea level) is located in the center of the island and is the central cone that rests within the caldera at the summit of the mountain. It was created by the An-ei eruption in 1777 and has a steep, shaft-like crater at its summit with a diameter of 300 meters and a depth of more than 200 meters. It has been quiet since the 1986 eruption and offers a spectacular up-close view of the area around the crater. If you turn around, you'll be greeted by the magnificent scenery of the seasons both inside and outside the caldera. The view across the ocean extends from the Izu Islands to the Izu Peninsula and Mt. Fuji.

Senzu Path Cut
A secret entrance!
Two giant trees stand tall. Their thick roots firmly grasp the earth, while their trunks reach skyward with remarkable strength. The trees grow endlessly in every direction as if they possess a will of their own. It is an overwhelming sight. The surrounding area is blanketed with moss, creating a distinctive landscape. It is a power spot that conveys the strength, resilience, and beauty of nature.

Akappage(Red Hill)
A red hill jutting out into the sea
It is located on the Sunset Palm Line along the shore in the northwestern part of Oshima. It is a parasitic volcano formed by a phreatic explosion 3,400 years ago, and rocks from volcanic eruptions (scoria) formed thick layers near the crater. Red scoria indicates that the iron in the lava was exposed to enough oxygen at high temperatures. The setting sun is like a painting. The hill is an observation deck that offers views of the sea and a nearby walking trail.

Cape Nagane
Natural pier
There was a large-scale eruption on the northwestern hillside of a somma volcano. Lava flows erupting from the fissures cascaded down the valley, engulfing most of the present-day Motomachi town area before flowing into the sea. Cape Nagane juts out 100 meters into the sea. It was formed by lava flows that filled a small valley and solidified.

Kakihara Beach
A strange tower with a cinder on top
Around Kakihara Beach, you can find many "bomb sags," which are dents created by falling cinders that were ejected high into the sky during the explosive eruptions. The surrounding ground then eroded, resulting in an intriguing sight of towers crowned with cinders on their tops. Take a break here and experience this unusual sight up close.

Central Oshima surrounds the port located in the western part of Izu Oshima. This area has plenty of restaurants and other eateries with seasonal seafood delicacies.
Bekko is a local dish of the Izu Islands. The dish is called "Bekko" because the fillets of seasonal fish, such as Japanese butterfish and parrotfish, take on the color of tortoiseshell (bekko) when dipped in green chili pepper soy sauce. Sushi topped with bekko has the tastes of the island. Fresh seafood such as small abalones, alfonsino, Japanese spiny lobsters, and more.
